US-based manufacturer and distributor of gaming technology, International Game Technology (IGT), has announced they have been awarded two Class II licenses from the National Gaming Office in Romania.
Romania passed new gambling regulations in 2015, opening up the market for licensed operators to offer gambling services to residents. Last September, 888 was awarded a gambling license in Romania and they are preparing the final touches on the 888.ro website which will go live in the country on September 1. The IGT Class II licenses have been awarded for platform management and software provision.
“The granting of these licenses in Romania further enhances the IGT group’s presence in key regulated markets and extends our support for our customers’ growth strategy,” announced IGT vice president of commercial interactive sales and B2C operations, Gianluca Ballocci. “We look forward to delivering the industry’s most robust game portfolio and well-known IGT game content to operators and players throughout Romania.”
Customers in Romania will have access to a casino, sportsbook and poker offering via the 888.ro site which will combine all its services into a single account. Players will be able to enjoy the services in their local currency and language, making it accessible for the local market.
“888 has been one of the world’s leading and trusted gambling operators for almost two decades, powered by our award-winning proprietary software and services,” said chief executive of 888, Itai Frieberger.
“Our flagship brands 888poker, 888casino and 888sport operate in several regulated markets around the world, including the United Kingdom, Spain and Denmark and have been an online destination of choice in these markets for years.”
“We aim to offer 888.ro to Romanian players as a global brand with a unique, local flavour.”
