  • Colombia are regarded as dark horses to win the World Cup

  • DR Congo are yet to ever win a World Cup match

  • Colombia are No.12 in the FIFA World Rankings, with DR Congo 43rd.

Colombia vs DR Congo football match

Nestor Lorenzo’s Colombia team is on an upward trajectory. They finished runners-up in the 2024 Copa America, and followed that by booking their place at the World Cup by finishing third in the CONMEBOL qualifying group.

After seeing Portugal drop points in their opening World Cup Group K match, Colombia took full advantage by beating Uzbekistan 3-1 in their first game. Goals from Daniel Munoz, Luis Diaz and Jaminton Campaz sealed the win that put Lorenzo’s team top of the group.

DR Congo booked their World Cup spot by finishing runners-up in CAF Group B and winning Pathway 1 of the FIFA Inter-Confederation play-offs.

Sebastien Desabre’s team impressively held Portugal to a 1-1 draw in their first Group K fixture. Newcastle United’s Yoane Wissa scored their only goal of the match, cancelling out Joao Neves’ 6th-minute opener.

The Leopards held their own against the star-studded Portuguese team and may feel disappointed not to have taken all three points.

DR Congo are again the outsiders for this match. They are 11/2 (6.50) to beat Colombia. For comparison, they were 9/1 (10.0) to beat Portugal

The draw is 16/5 (4.20), while Colombia are 1/2 (1.50) for the win that would secure their place in the Round of 32.

DR Congo are likely to keep things tight, but with Luis Diaz in good form, we expect Colombia to win 2-1 or 2-0.

Why you should tail the bet:

  • Nestor Lorenzo’s Colombia team are on a three-match winning streak and have won seven of their last ten.

  • Colombia look dangerous going forward with Luis Diaz and Luis Suarez both posing a constant goal threat. The team has scored in nine of its last ten matches.

  • Colombia regularly play international matches at high altitude and should be better equipped to cope with playing at the Estadio Akron, which is more than 1,500 metres above sea level.

  • DR Congo’s draw with Portugal earned them their first ever World Cup point.

  • The Leopards are hard to beat, but they don’t score many. Sebastien Desabre’s team have just two goals in their last three matches.

Colombia vs. DR Congo team news

Neither team reported any injury problems from their first matches and may opt to stick with the same starting line-ups.

DR Congo did play a back five against Portugal to great effect and head coach Sebastien Desabre may feel that this is the most effective way of trying to thwart the likes of Luis Diaz.

Colombia vs. DR Congo predicted lineups

We expect Colombia to line up like this:

Camilo Vargas, Daniel Munoz, Davinson Sanchez, Jhon Lucumi, Johan Mojica, Gustavo Puerta, Jefferson Lerma, Jhon Arias, James Rodriguez, Luis Diaz, Luis Suarez.

And DR Congo should line up as follows:

Lionel Mpasi-Nzau, Axel Tuanzebe, Chancel Mbemba, Steve Kapuadi, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Arthur Masuaku, Samuel Moutoussamy, Ngal Ayel Mukau, Edo Kayembe, Yoane Wissa, Cedric Bakambu.
