Top spot in Group C is on the line when Brazil face Scotland in Miami on Wednesday. With Morocco facing Haiti at the same time, Carlo Ancelotti’s team need to retain their goal difference advantage (currently two) if they want to progress as group winners.
Brazil began their campaign with a 1-1 draw with Morocco. They followed that with a convincing 3-0 win over Haiti, with a brace from Matheus Cunha and one from Vinicius Junior sealing the three points.
Scotland have three points from their two matches and sit third in the group. They began with a 1-0 win over Haiti, but Steve Clarke’s team lost 1-0 to Morocco in their second match.
A win over Brazil would guarantee a top-two finish in the group and a place in the knockouts for Scotland. A draw should be enough to qualify for the Round of 32 as one of the best third-place finishers, and even a defeat could see the Tartan Army get through, however, it would be a nervy wait.
Brazil are just 4/11 (1.36) to win the match, with the draw at 4/1 (5.0) and a Scotland win at 7/1 (8.0).
Scotland are likely to adopt a safety-first approach and try to avoid defeat. But we still expect Brazil to find a way and can see the Selecao winning by a scoreline of 2-0 or 3-0.
Why you should tail the bet:
Despite not hitting their best form, Brazil should still have too much for Scotland.
Scotland have a tendency to sit back and keep things tight, looking to hit on the counter-attack.
Brazil beat Haiti 3-0 in their last match, landing this bet.
Scotland have scored just one goal in their two World Cup matches and have also only conceded once.
Brazil are fifth in the World Rankings, while Scotland are 41st.
Carlo Ancelotti’s team have far more goalscoring threats in their squad.
Scotland vs. Brazil team news
Scott McKenna has missed Scotland’s first two matches and is also a doubt to face Brazil. Along with McKenna, Aaron Hickey and Lewis Ferguson also missed training over the weekend, but both are expected to be available.
Brazil will be without Raphinha, after the Barcelona forward picked up a hamstring injury in the win over Haiti. His place in the team is set to be taken by 19-year-old Rayan. Elsewhere, Neymar is available, but he may have to be content to start from the bench.
Scotland vs. Brazil predicted lineups
We expect Scotland to line up like this:
Angus Gunn, Nathan Patterson, Jack Hendry, Grant Hanley, Andy Robertson, Kiernan Tierney, Ryan Christie, Lewis Ferguson, Scott McTominay, John McGinn, Che Adams.
And Brazil should line up as follows:
Alisson Becker, Danilo, Marquinhos, Gabriel Magalhaes, Douglas Santos, Bruno Guimaraes, Casemiro, Rayan, Lucas Paqueta, Vinicius Jr, Matheus Cunha.
