Portugal vs Democratic Republic of the Congo match bet

Portugal got their hands on silverware when they won the 2025 Nations League, defeating Spain in the final on penalties.

This will be their seventh successive appearance at the World Cup finals. Roberto Martinez’s team sealed their place by topping Group F in the UEFA qualifying zone with 13 points from six matches (W4-D1-L1).

DR Congo clinched their spot at only their second World Cup by finishing runners-up in CAF Group B and winning Pathway 1 of the Inter-Confederation play-offs. They required extra-time to beat Jamaica 1-0 in the final, with Axel Tuanzebe scoring the only goal of a tight game.

Portugal are very short in the betting at just 3/10 (1.30) to win. The draw is 4/1 (5.0) and a win for DR Congo is 9/1 (10.0).

The Portuguese should be too strong and we can see Ronaldo and company winning 2-0 or 3-0

Why you should tail the bet:

  • Portugal are in good form with three wins from their last four matches, only failing to beat Mexico (0-0).

  • The wins were against tough opposition in the USA (2-0), Chile (2-1) and Nigeria (2-1).

  • In Bernardo Silva, Vitinha, Joao Neves and Bruno Fernandes, Portugal have one of the most talented and creative midfields at the World Cup.

  • Portugal have scored at least two goals in seven of their last ten matches.

  • DR Congo are ranked 45th in the World Rankings, 40 places behind Portugal. The step up in class should see the Leopards struggle against their more established opponents.

  • In their only previous appearance at the World Cup finals, DR Congo lost all three of their group matches in 1974.

Portugal vs Democratic Republic of the Congo team news

Portugal have no reported injury problems ahead of their World Cup opener.

Cristiano Ronaldo is available to play despite picking up a red card for violent conduct against Ireland on Matchday 5 of the World Cup qualifiers. The Portugal captain had the second and third games of his three-match ban suspended for a year as it was his first sending off in over 200 international appearances.

DR Congo also have a clean bill of health and look set to field a side with recognisable Premier League talent, including Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Axel Tuanzebe and Yoane Wissa.

Portugal vs Democratic Republic of the Congo predicted lineups

We expect Portugal to line up like this:

Diogo Costa, Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Goncalo Inacio, Nuno Mendes, Joao Neves, Vitinha, Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Pedro Neto, Cristiano Ronaldo.

And DR Congo should line up as follows:

Lionel Mpasi-Nzau, Axel Tuanzebe, Chancel Mbemba, Steve Kapuadi, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Arthur Masuaku, Noah Sadiki, Samuel Moutoussamy, Ngal Ayel Mukau, Yoane Wissa, Cedric Bakambu.
