Ragnarok offers one of our first glimpses at G Games’ brand-new 99 Royale mechanic, which bundles 99 players into a lobby to spin online slots and attack each other – and it’s about as cool as it sounds. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it refuses to rely on this twist to catch your attention. The battle royale mechanic builds on a decent base game, complete with a Blood Wheel and a respin feature. If you can stomach its high volatility, Ragnarok is a sight to behold.
Here Are Some Screenshots I Took of the Game
Ragnarok’s consistently implemented Viking theme is a great fit for the sort of violence and betrayal that the Battle mode is built upon. The symbols have an ancient-timey feel, and I like the runic vibe of the royals. An eerie mist creeps past the 5x3 reel setup, and an intricate, wrought-iron crest looms above it. You get the feeling that you’re miles underground in an ancient Nordic dungeon – the perfect place to vanquish your foes without leaving a trace…

Should You Play the Ragnarok Slot?
My money’s on yes. Ragnarok’s flagship quality is its use of the 99 Royale mechanic, which lets you duke it out with up to 98 other players in real time. If you’re a slot fan that enjoys the dynamic, chaotic feeling of online combat gaming, you’re in for a real treat.
G Games debuted the new mechanic on three titles: Cherry Blossom, Ra The King, and Ragnarok. Of the three, today’s golden boy has the most features – and, dare I say, the best. While the other slots have free spins bonus games, the Ragnarok Respins and Blood Wheel combo adds a little extra spice to the core gameplay. If you'd like to try out the battle mode - feel free to follow our recommendation to play at bet365 Casino. We recently covered their new addition of this mode in partnership with 99 Royale, and you should definitely check out their free spins promotions too.
Unfortunately, the Return To Player (RTP) percentages for both game modes are less than stellar. Battle mode’s RTP skims the underside of average at 96.45%, while Solo mode comes in considerably behind at 94.02%. On top of that, the slot has a high volatility rating, which means it can be pretty hard on the ol’ bankroll.
While the multiplayer aspect of Ragnarok is a hands-down positive, there are some drawbacks to relying on nearly 100 other people to curate the vibe of your session. Sometimes, when I booted up Battle mode at non-peak times, I found myself in lobbies as small as eight.
- ⚔ Novel battle royale-style multiplayer mode
- 🎰 Blood Wheel bonus feature
- 🎡 Ragnarok Respins feature
- 📉 Below-average RTPs – particularly in Solo mode
- 🎮 Lobbies can be quite sparse during less busy times
- 😞 High-volatility gameplay might not suit all play styles
How to Place Your First Bet on Ragnarok
Your first mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find a casino that carries it. G Games’ new 99 Royale mechanic is the word on everyone’s lips in the casino scene, so this shouldn't be too hard. If I were you, I’d take a look at our list of top Irish casinos.
No matter where you end up settling down, your journey to Ragnarok will look a little like this:
Pick an operator and head over to the registration page. If you’ve already got an account, tune back in at step five.
The casino will get up all close and personal, asking about your full name, address, gender, and date of birth. That sort of thing.
Create a username and strong password.
At this point, you might be asked to verify your phone number and email address.
Navigate to the cashier and make a deposit. Some casinos will ask you to carry out Know Your Customer (KYC) checks at this point.
Whack ‘Ragnarok’ into the search bar.
Open the paytable and familiarise yourself with the slot’s symbols and mechanics.
Once you’re a Ragnarok expert, select a game mode, adjust your bet value, and head into the battlefield!
My First Moments Playing Ragnarok
The first thing that struck me about Ragnarok (and I’ll bet it strikes you too) was the intensity of the music. Think throat singing, drums, angelic choirs and ambient synths. Music you can chill to, or send thousands of soldiers to war to, y’know? A barbarian hero wielding two axes looms above a fiery pit as you choose a game mode – a design choice that, if anything, adds a bit too much weight to the decision.
The Gang’s All Here: 99 Players in the Same Room
I’d be a pretty shoddy casino reviewer if I didn’t make a song and dance about Ragnarok’s multiplayer mechanic. It’s the surprisingly cohesive intersection between classic slots, battle royale knockout systems, and retro fighting games. I know slots are video games, but I like how Ragnarok adopts conventions of traditional console and PC gaming, such as health, combat, targeting and power accumulation. The comic book-style text popping up with ad libs like ‘Watch Out!’ is another nice retro-gaming touch.
Where Fashion Meets Function (on Mobile, at Least)
As well as having the most features of the first three 99 Royale titles, I’d say Ragnarok has the best design. The music, symbol design and characters all fully commit to the slot’s Viking theme, and I’m all here for it. The only issue with the game’s appearance becomes apparent when playing on desktop; the vertical display was clearly designed for mobile players, so there’s a fair bit of dead space either side of the reels. Still, the carved, castle-y backdrop is better than two black squares, I suppose.
Let's Talk About the Bonus Games You'll Find
Ragnarok has two key bonus games: Ragnarok Respins and the Blood Wheel feature. These can be unlocked in both Solo mode and Battle mode. If you’re lucky, a side mission might be available. Y’know, in case you needed more to do.
If you ever need to brush up on the inner workings of Ragnarok’s features, click on the information (i) button in the bottom-right corner.
Solo Mode
Solo mode operates on the same core gameplay as Battle mode, only you’re on your own. It’s a pretty easy-to-grasp 5x3 slot. Landing three or more matching symbols across any of its 25 fixed paylines will award a single-line win of up to 30x your stake.

Drumroll for the showstopper: Battle mode! This is a multiplayer free-for-all where you attack your foes in real time. As you might be able to guess, it’s a pretty unconventional format for an online slot, so I’ve broken it down into the key stages you’ll encounter each round:
/fit-in/126x126/1763383979/special-symbols.png)
Matchmaking
Entering a battle will throw you into matchmaking mode. The game will attempt to pair you with as many as 98 other players (or, as the lobby calls them, ‘enemies’), but be prepared for as few as seven.
You’ll be shown a countdown of how long it’ll be until the round starts. In my experience, the countdown was right about half the time, and the actual wait was almost always around thirty seconds.
While you’re waiting, you’ll be kept entertained with a rotating selection of battle tips (as well as the ever-intense music, of course).
/fit-in/126x126/1763383979/special-symbols.png)
Power
Landing a line win will have two consequences:
A payout (thank you, Captain Obvious)
A Power award
The amount of Power awarded will depend on the size of the win relative to your stake and your Level. More on that later.
Power can be used to attack other players. The amount you have available will be displayed on the Power button. There’s no fixed maximum you can keep in your arsenal, but there is a limit on how much you can use in one attack. This is known as your ‘clip size’.
/fit-in/126x126/1763383979/special-symbols.png)
Attacks
Smack the Power button to execute an attack. When you hit someone, Health will be deducted from their Health bar and added to yours. If you’re able to attack someone so hard it’d knock them out of the game, the Power button will let you know.
/fit-in/126x126/1763383979/special-symbols.png)
Health
Every player starts with 1,000 Health. If you get hit, the screen flashes red and you’ll take damage. The colour of the health bar indicates how you’re doing: green, then orange, then red when it’s looking particularly dire.
/fit-in/126x126/1763383979/special-symbols.png)
Targeting
The targeting menu along the right side of the screen lets you decide who should face your wrath:
Random: A random player that hasn’t reached their targeting limit
Weakest: One of the players with the lowest current Health
Strongest: One of the players at the highest current Level
Attackers: Splits the power of your attacks equally between anyone that’s currently targeting you
To stop one player from getting bullied by the rest of the squad, the game caps how many people can attack you through targeting limits. If the person you’re attacking becomes a no-go (either through reaching their limit or elimination), you’ll be automatically assigned your next victim.
If you see orange text saying ‘Danger’ above a player’s avatar, that means that they’re targeting you.
/fit-in/126x126/1763383979/special-symbols.png)
Levelling
Each player starts at Level 0 with the potential to work up to the maximum of Level 5.
Knocking players out increases your level. You’ll only need one fatality to reach Level 1, but subsequent levels have higher kill counts.
The higher your level, the more Power you’ll get from landing line wins.
Elimination
When your health reaches zero, it’s the end of the road. A big banner appears showing the screen name and smug face of whoever just knocked you out. Cold.
Your line wins will be paid out, and, if you’re one of the final players standing, you’ll receive a share of the Battle Prize. This is a pot funded by a portion of all the bets placed during the battle. The size of your slice will be determined by your finishing position and your total stake during the round.
The more players join the lobby, the more people will be eligible for a piece of the Battle Prize pie:
| Number of players | Number of prize-paying positions |
|---|---|
| 76–99 | 15 |
| 61–75 | 10 |
| 51–60 | 9 |
| 41–50 | 8 |
| 31–40 | 6 |
| 21–30 | 5 |
| 11–20 | 3 |
| 8–10 | 2 |
Ragnarok Respins Feature
This feature is triggered by landing a full stack of three wild symbols on any reel but the first.
With each respin, the stacked wild will move one position to the left. Each time it shifts, the multiplier applied to the respin increases by 1x. As usual, wilds substitute for regular symbols to complete line wins. Once the stacked wild exits the reels, you’ll be given an extra spin for good measure.
Blood Wheel Feature
The Blood Wheel feature is triggered by landing between two and four scatters on the first four reels and an Unlock symbol on the fifth. For each scatter in the triggering combination, you’ll earn one spin on the Blood Wheel.
If you enter the bonus with two or three spins, landing a zero on the wheel will boost you up to the maximum of four.
The first spin will award a number between one and nine, and the second and third spins will give you a number between zero and nine. The fourth spin will award a number between zero and four. Each number is stuck in front of the last, creating a multiplier that’ll be applied to your stake. This is where the game’s 4,999x maximum win potential comes from!
Side Missions
When you boot up the game, there’s a chance you’ll see little bubbles in the lobby. These are Side Missions, quests you can participate in alongside the main gameplay that can unlock additional prizes. Only one was available at launch: Loot Crates, which can drop prizes from an ever-growing pot at any time.
More Side Missions will be announced in the future, so watch this space.
Skins
Completing certain Side Missions and seasonal promotions will unlock fun little outfits for your character.
Some Technical Considerations About Ragnarok
Ragnarok is an Old Norse term that loosely translates to ‘fate of the gods’. Your actual chances of winning are, less whimsically, a bit more number-y and normal than that. Begrudgingly, let’s swap myth for maths and look at what’s going on in the background of Ragnarok.
Ragnarok’s RTP differs between game modes. Solo mode has an RTP of 94.02%, and Battle mode’s comes in a bit higher at 96.45%. Both of these sit below the average across Irish slots (96.5%), which might deter some casual players.
A game’s volatility indicates how big and frequent its payouts are likely to be. Ragnarok has a high volatility rating, which means you should strap in for lengthy dry spells if you’re chasing bigger wins. G Games puts the feature-trigger probability at 1 in 180 per spin, so bear this in mind when deciding if you’re going to try your luck at scoring one.
Both game modes have a maximum win potential of 4,999x per round. This isn’t the highest, considering the slot’s volatility, but I’m pleased to report that this doesn’t apply to the Battle Prize.
If your chosen casino supports it, Ragnarok has an autoplay feature.
The Battle mode RTPs in the other two 99 Royale games (Cherry Blossom and Ra The King) are above the Irish market average.
Why Do I Think Ragnarok Stands Out?
It goes without saying that Ragnarok’s use of the innovative 99 Royale multiplayer mechanic makes it stand out from other slots on the market; not many games serve you a 99-man brawl alongside an already-solid base game. What really stands out are the Blood Wheel and Ragnarok Respins features, which set it apart from even the other slots in the series. Even if you think you’ve seen it all, I guarantee you: you’ve never seen something like this.
