It’s elementary my dear, and that element is water! Sharkluck Holmes fuses everyone’s favourite Victorian detective with everyone’s favourite tornado-loving killer fish, and who doesn’t like the sound of that? This is established in the fun characters based on marine life wearing Victorian garb. The wild symbol is Sharluck Holmes himself, a purple shark complete with a deerstalker hat and trusty magnifying glass in hand, or should I say in fin? With a wide, toothy grin dancing on his face and quite the crazed look in his eye, Sharkluck Holmes is something to behold. 

Our dapper detective is joined by the two highest-paying symbols: a very serious-looking walrus in a suit jacket and red cravat and a gormless fish in a hat smoking a pipe. The gormless fish is my personal favourite, as the little lad looks very silly indeed. These characters add a lot of whimsical charm to the game and make it totally unique and really fun.

Placing your first bet on Sharkluck Holmes isn’t anywhere near as hard as solving a mystery; it’s actually very simple. But to make sure you have the easiest time possible, check out the steps below.

My First Moments Playing Sharkluck Holmes

When I first opened the game, the first things that jumped out at me were the game’s graphics and sounds. Whilst both have been produced to a high standard, I had some issues with both. However, I think the graphics add more to the slot than they take away. 

Impressive Graphics

As you can expect, it was the theme of the game that jumped out at me at first. This unique mixture of sharks and Sherlock was really interesting and fun. The game’s theme is backed up by high-quality graphics that fully immerse the player. The game’s background is of an ocean floor and sways back and forth with animated movement. Once free spins are activated, this changes to a different underwater scene that I liked less. It has a lot of greys, and while it was still illustrated to a high standard, it did look a little flat compared to the base game background. That being said, even this less interesting background is still done to a high standard and really adds something to the game. I was very glad to see this, as commitment to the bit is always needed to pull off such a wacky and unique theme.  

The Sound of the Baskervilles

The sound of Sharkluck Holmes was a little strange. I thought the backing music was grand, as it sounds like the theme tune of a mystery and is quite soft-sounding, so players won’t feel overstimulated by it after a few hours of gaming. The problem I had was that the sound effects of the game were much louder than the theme. This sound mixing issue meant that I wanted to turn the effects’ volumes down to be more balanced with the music, but there’s no option to turn individual elements down. As I mentioned earlier, you can turn off the music as soon as you open the game, but doing so feels like a shame when the backing track adds a lot of fun and immersion to the game.

Some Technical Considerations About Sharkluck Holmes

I dived into the icy waters of Sharkluck Holmes’ more technical aspects and found a few interesting mechanics. The game has a theoretical Return to Player (RTP) percentage of 96.01%. This is the theoretical amount of your funds that will hypothetically be returned to you after the slot for an extended period of time. Sharkluck Holmes stands out thanks to its hilarious theme mash-up and backs it up with high-quality graphics and interesting game mechanics. I did think that the sound mixing was off and could have been improved, but the backing music itself was done to a really high standard. The game could have gone for a more dynamic alternative background when free spins are active, but that is just a personal preference. The same goes for medium volatility based gameplay, as some bettors won’t like this style, but other players will. Ultimately, I think that Sharkluck Holmes is a wonderfully whimsical game that has become one of my recent favourites. And with that, the game is a fin!
