Smarkets Sportsbook's Website at a Glance
If you are a newcomer to betting exchanges or prediction-style platforms, then Smarkets is the perfect place to start. I found the site to be really well laid out and intuitive. It also offers tutorials and can make adjustments based on your experience level with betting exchanges and betting in general. Of all the leading betting exchanges in Ireland, Smarkets is the most user-friendly and is certainly the best for beginners.

My Experience Opening an Account at Smarkets Sportsbook
Smarkets makes signing up for an account a really easy process. The operator completes frictionless verification during the process. However, if you can not do this, you will need to verify yourself by going into your profile before you attempt your first withdrawal.
I started by clicking the green ‘Create Account’ button at the top of the page.
On the first page, I had to enter my email and password.
On the first page, I had to enter my email, chosen user ID, and password.
Next, I needed to enter my name, date of birth, and address. You need to ensure your name matches your name on any official ID.
On this stage, there is a promo code box at the bottom of the page. It should automatically fill in, but if it doesn’t, enter the code COMMFREE to get the first 60 days commission-free.
Before completing the sign-up process, Smarkets will ask you a few questions about your experience with betting exchanges. You can skip these, but if you are new to the exchange process, it will provide you with some useful information.
How Did I Place a Bet on Smarkets Sportsbook?
Placing a bet on a betting exchange is slightly more complicated than at a typical Irish online bookmaker.
After depositing my funds, I visited the betting exchange to see what odds were available. I wanted to back Chelsea to beat Tottenham. To do this, I need to click the back price (buy) at the odds available and then enter my stake. I then need to wait for someone to lay the bet if it has not already been laid. In the instance that a bet has not been laid, it will sit in the order book.
If you want to lay a bet, you follow the same process, only you click the lay value, which is marked as ‘sell’ here.
Smarkets Withdrawal Review
My experience withdrawing funds from Smarkets was smooth. My first withdrawal took a little longer than the others, but in each instance, the cash was still back in my bank account in less than 12 hours.
| Withdrawal Method | Min. withdrawal | Max. Withdrawal | Withdrawal Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visa Debit/Mastercard Debit | €10 | N/A | Up to 24 hours |

Smarkets Withdrawal Requirements
If your account is verified, the only withdrawal requirement is that your account has at least €10. It is worth noting that you can only use a withdrawal method if you have used it for a deposit first.
In some instances, Smarkets may need to verify your identity before making a withdrawal. In this instance, they will ask for one of the following:
Proof of ID (Passport/driving license)
Proof of address
My Experience Withdrawing Winnings at Smarkets
My experiences withdrawing with Smarkets were largely positive. My funds took a few hours to appear in my account during my first withdrawal attempt, but after this, they appeared nearly instantly.

Smarkets Deposit Review
Making a deposit at Smarkets is a smooth process. The minimum deposit is €10, with the site covering the most popular payment methods. The availability of methods may vary depending on your location, so that should be considered if you are accessing the site from outside Ireland. I personally used my debit card to deposit funds, with the site processing the deposit instantly.
Other available methods include Neteller, Skrill, PayPal, and Trustly, as well as Google Pay and Apple Pay for mobile bettors.
| Depositing Method | Min. Deposit | Max. Deposit | Depositing Time |

Firsthand Experience of Mobile Gaming at Smarkets Sportsbook
Overall, I found the Smarkets mobile site to be a good option, though I prefer using the Smarkets app. The mobile site is, as every good mobile site should be, essentially just a condensed version of the desktop site. It uses the same layout, with side menus for navigating the sports, and a clean black-and-white colour scheme that is easy on the eyes.
Smarkets Mobile App
The Smarkets betting app can be downloaded for free on Android and iOS devices. I was very impressed with the mobile app and, in many ways, found it more accessible than the desktop version. Depositing funds is made nice and easy with Apple Pay, and the option to use Face ID has made accessing my account much faster.
The mobile app also defaults to the darker colour scheme, which is my preferred setting for the site. It gives it a much sharper look, and it feels more akin to what I would expect from a trading app

The Different Betting Markets I Found at Smarkets
One of the reasons I love using Smarkets so much is the number of betting markets available. As well as popular sports like football, tennis, and horse racing, it is one of the best places to bet on alternative markets like politics and entertainment.
In this respect, it is not just an excellent sports betting exchange, but also a great way to track opinions and get an idea of how people think current affairs will play out.
/fit-in/126x126/1706089073/football-betting.png)
Football
Unsurprisingly, football betting is the most popular sport to bet on at Smarkets. All major football events will have significant liquidity, with the Premier League, Champions League, and La Liga among the most liquid markets on the site.
Unfortunately, as is quite common with betting exchanges, a lot of the lower league markets don’t have as much liquidity, and it can be tricky getting your bet matched.
/fit-in/126x126/1706089045/horse-racing-betting.png)
Horse Racing
Smarkets is a popular option among Irish bettors for horse racing exchanges. It covers major Irish and English races throughout the day, and you will never struggle to get decent odds and your bets matched on these races.
Like football, some of the more obscure races can struggle to get liquidity, so if you are the kind of punter who enjoys betting on US or Australian racing, you might want to look at a more traditional Irish online bookie.
/fit-in/126x126/1763383979/special-symbols.png)
Politics and Current Affairs
Unlike standard online sports betting sites, betting exchanges and prediction markets tend to put a real focus on politics and current affairs, and Smarkets is no different. As a political betting enthusiast, I love checking out the current exchanges and odds on Smarkets. It is an excellent way to monitor the public perception of events, and you can get some great value if you are ahead of the curve.
A Closer Look at Betting Odds at Smarkets
In my experience, Smarkets is one of the best betting exchanges you will find in Ireland. The only fair way to analyse the site is to compare it with other popular Irish betting exchanges. Betfair is the most popular, and this is reflected in the liquidity pool of its bets. When looking at PSG vs Paris FC in League One, Betfair had a whopping £884,000 in the pool. Smarkets was nowhere near this, sitting at £96,000.
This does mean, on the whole, it is easier to get your bets matched at Betfair. However, one key area where Smarkets wins is its commission rates, which are flat at 2%, compared to Betfair’s, which vary.
Does Smarkets Have a Good Range of Bets?
Yes. Smarkets offers some really solid betting options. If we stick with the PSG vs Paris FC match listed above, there are a huge number of markets you can bet on, including player specials and match specials. In some instances, it was hard to get a bet placed, which is always one of the downsides of betting exchanges.
As I have mentioned, I am a big fan of the political and entertainment betting options at Smarkets, and I find that this is where some of the most interesting bets are available. Its coverage of US and UK politics, in particular, is among the best you will find at an online Irish betting site.
Live Betting and Streaming at Smarkets
Live betting is extremely popular at Smarkets, and the site’s user-friendly design makes it easy to jump on any potential opportunities. In terms of live streams, the site broadcasts horse racing throughout the day, and, in my experience, the streams are high-quality and consistent. You will need to have wagered on a race to watch it.
How I Claimed the Welcome Bonus at Smarkets Sportsbook?
The welcome bonus at Smarkets is not a traditional deposit bonus or free bet. Instead, new customers can get 0% commission on all wagers for the first 60 days. To claim the bonus, you will need to use the code COMMFREE during your sign-up process.
What You Should Pay Attention to With This Bonus?
The 0% commission is applied to all new customers who deposit €10. However, it is important to note that the offer is only eligible if your first deposit is made with a Visa/Mastercard debit card or via an instant bank transfer. Any deposits made using PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, or any sort of prepaid method are not eligible.
Punters should also be aware that this is for all bets settled within a 60-day period. If your bet is placed before the expiry, but it is settled after, you will still need to pay the standard 2% commission.
Did I Need a Bonus Code to Receive the Offer?
Yes. You need to use the code COMMFREE during sign-up. During my registration, the operator auto-generated the code for me, but you should not rely on that happening and make sure you double-check before activating your account.
The Inside Scoop on Betting Bonuses and Promotions at Smarkets
Smarkets has one promotion; let’s break it down.
Bet Builder
How it works: Smarkets allows customers to build bets within specific markets depending on their availability.
My Experience: While I had no issues using the Bet Builder at Smarkets, I do prefer to place them at a traditional sports betting site where the market availability is much stronger.
/fit-in/960x350/1742891371/stake-casino-bonuses.png)
Unavailable Bonuses at Smarkets
As a betting exchange, Smarkets does not offer the kinds of traditional bonuses you would find at a top Irish online betting site. These include:
Deposit bonus
VIP programme
Wagering Requirements at Smarkets: Are They Fair?
As there are no traditional bonuses available at Smarkets, there are zero wagering requirements to worry about. Any wins with zero commission as part of the welcome bonus can be instantly withdrawn.
Weighing The Pros and Cons of Smarkets
If you are looking for a top betting exchange site, the pros far outweigh the cons at Smarkets. The site has a really nice layout and design that makes it perfect for newcomers, and it does an excellent job of making a betting exchange seem accessible.
It is also an excellent choice for Irish bettors who enjoy alternative betting markets. As a big politics and entertainment bettor, Smarkets has become one of my go-to sites for both of these. It also offers a range of novelty markets akin to the type you would expect to find on US-style prediction platforms.
Of course, Smarkets is not without a few downsides. The lack of liquidity in smaller markets is going to be the biggest drawback for more seasoned exchange bettors, with the odds now being quite as fluid or reflective as they are on bigger sites. Aside from this, the only other issue I had with the site was the operating hours for the live chat, which close up at 23:00, meaning you can’t contact them overnight if you run into an issue.
- 😀 User-friendly design
- 🥳 Hundreds of daily live streams
- ♠️ Excellent range of markets
- 📱 Mobile app for Android and iOS
- 😔 Limited live-chat operating hours
- 😥 Smaller liquidity pools
How I Connected To Smarkets Sportsbook: A Step-by-Step Guide?
One area where Smarkets could be improved slightly is its customer support. The site offers a number of options, and the support team are responsive, but the issue is the opening hours, with the live-chat service only being open between 9am - 11pm.
After opening my account, I reached out to the customer support team to ask about withdrawal times and amounts. I was connected with an agent named Mark within seconds, and he was able to provide a quick response. Here is our exchange:
Me: Hey, how long do withdrawals typically take on the site?
Agent: Hi, Mark here. First-time withdrawals can take up to 24 hours to process on our end. It will also depend on which method you are using.
Me: I will just be using my bank card. What is the minimum amount I can withdraw?
Agent: £10.
Me: Excellent, thanks for your help.
As you can see, the agent was direct and answered my questions clearly. However, I did reach out to the team over email and did not receive a response within 24 hours, which was something that had been noted by other users.

Trustworthiness of Smarkets
Smarkets is one of the most well-respected betting exchanges currently active in Ireland. The site has been on the market for nearly 20 years and has become a trusted source of not just betting, but also public opinion and information. The brand is fully compliant with regulators and has a solid reputation among Irish bettors.
/fit-in/126x126/1705918773/reliability.png)
Licence and Security - Is Smarkets Sportsbook Safe and Legit?
Yes. Smarkets is one of several fully licensed and regulated betting exchanges available in Ireland. It is licensed and regulated by the United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) under license number 39173, Ireland’s Office of Revenue Commissioners, and outside of the UK by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA).
Smarkets Sportsbook Reputation - What Do the Reviews Say?
Like many online betting sites in Ireland, Smarkets does have a mixed review among punters. There is a mix of positive and negative reviews, with the positive reviews praising its user-friendly design, speed of payouts, and overall customer experience. One review from a British customer reads: “Smooth interface, quick payouts, top-class customer service. Liquidity can be an issue, but we fight against giants”.
However, some customers have noted issues with the customer support, with one angrier review reading “This company lacks transparency. There is always an excuse not to pay you whenever a request for a withdrawal. The customer support is highly unprofessional and deliberately unresponsive”.
Smarkets Sportsbook Commitment to Responsible Gambling
As a UKGC licensed site, it is no surprise to see Smarkets offers a comprehensive list of responsible gambling resources and tools. I was impressed with everything the site had to offer, with the safer gambling page also providing useful tips on how to spot a gambling problem and links to external tools and resources that could help.

Did I have Any Problems Betting at Smarkets?
The biggest issue with Smarkets is that, as I have mentioned throughout this review, the site does not have as much liquidity as Betfair, which can make it tough to bet on some markets. The site will inject liquidity into some of its pools, so you don’t always run into situations where you can’t bet, but this also means the odds aren't as consistent as you might find on other exchanges.
If you are a fan of more niche betting, whether that is more niche sports or lower leagues, then Smarkets might not be the best site for you.
Why Did I Give Smarkets a Rating of 4.6?
Smarkets scored highly according to our TOPScore system and has been given a 4.6/5 rating. This review takes into account my own experiences using Smarkets, the general consensus from customers and reviews from other leading sites.
The site scored highly for betting options and its low commission rate, while losing some markets for its limited bonuses and lack of liquidity in some markets.
Do I Recommend Betting at Smarkets?
Yes. If you are looking for a change from traditional bookmakers and using a betting exchange tickles your fancy, then this is by far the best option out there. Betting exchanges can be daunting for new users, but Smarkets does a brilliant job of making it feel very easy. Its 2% commission fee is also a major selling point, and it removes many of the complications you will find often find on other betting exchanges.
