Fortune of Aztec Slot Review 2025

One of my favourite mechanics was the tumble feature, where after hitting a winning combination, all the winning symbols, except for scatters, are removed from the screen and replaced by symbols that tumble down from above the screen. This is also known as a cascade feature. Hitting another winning combination will result in a 1x multiplier added to your final score. This has the potential to increase your win and has become one of my favourite features in the game. 

As previously mentioned, Fortune of Aztec features an Aztec priestess as a wild symbol, giving a bit of girl power to the Aztec-themed slots, especially when compared to an earlier Pragmatic Play slot, Fortunes of Aztec, which featured burly male warriors. In Fortune of Aztec (no S), the (not-so-burly) lady can appear on any of the reels and will substitute herself for any symbols other than a scatter. 

Fortune of Aztecs’ scatter symbol is a golden tile with large letters spelling out ‘Scatter’, so it's quite hard to miss. If you hit four to fourteen of these symbols, you’ll trigger free spins depending on the number you hit. These go up in multiples of two, starting at 10 and ending at 30. Every tumble win in free spins will increase the multiplier by 2x, and when you hit scatters whilst playing free spins, you’ll be awarded with bonus spins. This felt like the real meat of the game, but was quite difficult to trigger, as most free spins are activated by three scatter symbols, not four. 

Whilst not mentioned on the information page, all the symbols can expand and take up extra slots on the grid. This is an exciting feature as it shows the symbols in full detail, though not all. The symbols that expand their images are the owl, snake, lion, priestess and scatter. Of course, this is all the higher-paying symbols, though this isn’t to say that the others don’t look as grand, there’s just less to them. 

While the rest of the 5x6 grid works through the tumble feature, the top row is sticky and spins vertically. This doesn’t seem to affect gameplay significantly, but it’s a nice aesthetic touch.

By clicking the ‘Ante Bet’ button, you can increase the multiplier to 25x your bet, which will theoretically increase your chances of hitting scatter symbols. This is a little blue box found next to the spin button. I’m not entirely sure how effective this is, as the RTP remains 96.50% even with the feature turned on.

All symbols, apart from the scatters and wilds, can randomly appear with a silver border around them. When these silver-bordered tiles are part of a winning combination, they don’t explode, they become gold and turn into a random paying symbol. Instead of turning into a paying symbol, gold-bordered tiles transform into Aztec priestess wilds. This is definitely one way to keep the anticipation building.

Fortune of Aztec has the classic royals design for their low-paying tiles. These speak to a more classic design, but the rest of the slot is very modern and full of interesting graphics. I think Fortune of Aztec could have benefited from expanding its design for low-paying tiles. The rest of the symbols look modern, so why can’t these ones?
