Malta-based Gaming Innovation Group (GIG) has expanded its executive management team with the appointment of a new chief operating officer, as well as a new managing director of Guts.com. Mikael Ångman has been appointed COO of the group, effective September 1, while Katja Laaksonen will take up the role of managing director of Guts.com.
The executive team that GIG is putting together will be responsible for the three areas of gaming, digital marketing and cloud services.
Ångman has extensive leadership experience and will come to the group from his role of chief executive and chairman of mobile sports betting technology provider, Mobenga, a subsidiary of Playtech, where he has been since 2011.
Laaksonen has been working at Guts.com since 2014 and held the position of chief marketing officer. The current managing director of Guts, Robin Reed, will now take up the position of group chief executive of GIG.
“GIG has undergone transformational change as we have evolved from an affiliate to an operator and ultimately, the technology firm we are today,” announced Reed.
“In this process we have grown from a dozen employees to now exceeding 160. Crucial to our continued expansion is to couple the drive and innovation for which GIG is known, with operational excellence. Katja and Mikael have a proven track record and both represent the key qualities we are looking for in our top management.”
Ångman added: “I’m looking forward to working with Robin and his team at GIG. GIG is the most promising player on the market and I’m super excited to join. With my strong experience from Mobenga and Playtech, I am confident to deliver structure and growth to further strengthen the group.”
