Quick Answer

Online casinos are completely trustworthy as long as they have a verified casino licence and a RNG certificate or provably fair games. This ensures that they are both making sure that their players are safe and secure and that their own games aren’t skewed in their favour. Here is what to look out for whether a casino is legit or not:

Casino Licencing

One way to be assured of a casino’s legitimacy is whether or not it has a trusted casino licence. These are licences handed out and enforced by government bodies like the Irish Revenue Commissioners, the UK Gambling Commission or the Malta Gaming Authority. These departments have put in place restrictions and practises to protect players at online casinos. Whilst these specific requirements change per casino licensing board, all of them put in place safeguarding techniques to prevent fraud, money laundering or any other form of malpractice. A casino that operates without a licence should be the major red flag for players, and should result in players staying far away from that casino. You can verify if a casino has a casino licence by checking their site to see if they declare one, these are normally on show but they can be in terms and conditions or about us pages. Once you have seen that a casino is claiming to have an active licence you can double check this by looking on the license register of whichever governing body the casino has said to have a licence from. These can be found on their websites.

⚠ Watch out: some rouge casinos might display fake licence logos. Always cross-check with the regulator's official site to confirm if it's legit.

RNG Certification and Provably Fair Games

Another major thing for players to look out for, a Random Number Generator certificate or provably fair games both establish that the games at a casino aren’t rigged in any way. A RNG certificate can only be obtained by a casino from a third party tester, who can fully support that all the games offered at a casino use a random number generator to function. This means that the casino has no ability to change the probability of winning, as their games are powered by randomness.

Provably fair games are another way to verify a game’s legitimacy, except with these, the casino gives the player to check this whenever they’d like to. Provably fair games work off three mechanics, the server seed, the player seed and the nonce. Before the game begins you’ll receive the player seed and an encrypted hash containing the server seed. This is encrypted so at this point neither you or the casino can access it at all. The player seed, server seed and nonce determine the result of the game. At the end of a game, it will reveal the original server seed to you, which you can check against the hashed server seed you were given at the beginning and see if they are the same result. Including games like this reduces any doubt of foul play as the game proves how fair it is to you.

đŸš© Red flag alert: If a casino only offers obscure payment methods or doesn’t show game providers, that’s often a sign they’re cutting corners, or worse.

Quality of Payment Methods and Games

Whilst this is less reliable than checking for a RNG certificate or a casino license, you can sometimes tell how trustworthy a casino is depending on their games and payment options. If a casino has access to recognisable games from top software providers, like Pragmatic Play or Evolution, those games could be completely safe. Similarly, if a casino has trusted payment methods, especially cryptocurrencies or e-wallets, those methods could be more trustworthy. It’s definitely better to go with an assessment based on if a casino has a license and a way of proving their games are fair, but these can help too.

Our Trust Test: How We Spot a Safe Online Casino (and Expose the Fakes)

We only list casinos that pass our strict rating guidelines. No exceptions. Every site we recommend is fully licenced, regularly audited, and offers provably fair games or certified RNGs. If a casino can't meet these basic trust checks, it doesn't make the cut. Our rating guidelines, also known as the Irishluck Rulebook, cover everything from licencing and player protection policies to payment security, game provider quality, and how a casino handles disputes. We also check if they're transparent with their terms and responsive to play complaints.

In short, if we wouldn't play there ourselves, we won't send you there either.

We do the digging so you don’t have to. That means exposing shady operators and shining a light on casinos that are actually worth your time, and your money.

Not All Casinos Make the Cut. Here’s Who Got Blacklisted

These are the casinos we don’t recommend under any circumstances. If they’re on the list, they’ve been flagged for serious issues, and you’re better off steering well clear. Want to know exactly who made the naughty list? Check out our full blacklisted casinos page to see the offenders and why they got the boot.

Irishluck's Take on Trustworthy (and Not so Trustworthy) Casinos

Ultimately, most online casinos are completely trustworthy but there are evildoers out there who are after your money and personal information. That being said, you can spot these wronguns before they get anything precious from you by looking out for some key things. If a casino doesn’t have verified casino license, or a RNG certificate or provably fair games stay far away. This would mean that the casino isn’t bound to any regulations and can do whatever they like. You can also check to see if their games or payment methods are trustworthy and you should always use the most trusted option for your transactions. Armed with this information you’ll be able to spot an untrustworthy casino from a mile away and stay safe whilst gaming online.

FAQs

Hopefully I’ve cleared up any misconceptions about the trustworthiness of online casinos. If you’re still looking for more information, look no further than these handy frequently asked questions.

Can I trust a casino just because it looks professional?

Not necessarily. A slick website doesn’t always mean a legit operation. Some rogue casinos invest in flashy designs to seem credible. Always check for a valid licence and RNG certification before signing up.

What should I do if I think a casino is scamming me?

First, stop playing and take screenshots of any suspicious behaviour. Then, report the casino to the relevant licensing authority. If it's one we’ve reviewed or blacklisted, you can also let us know on support@irishluck.ie. We keep tabs on emerging scams.

Are casino review sites always unbiased?

Unfortunately, no. Some review sites promote casinos purely for commission, even if they’re not trustworthy. That’s why we follow strict rating guidelines and blacklist casinos that don’t meet our standards, even if it costs us.
