Let’s dive straight in. Here's our list of A-listers and their best current betting odds of being named as the next Bond.
Actor | Best Odds | Bookmaker |
---|---|---|
👔 Aaron Taylor-Johnson | 5/2 | William Hill |
👔 Theo James | 7/2 | William Hill |
👔 Henry Cavill | 8/1 | William Hill |
👔 Aaron Pierre | 8/1 | William Hill |
👔 James Norton | 10/1 | Ladbrokes |
👔 Regé-Jean Page | 25/1 | Ladbrokes |
👔 Paul Mescal | 33/1 | Ladbrokes |
👔 Cillian Murphy | 40/1 | William Hill |
👔 Charlize Theron | 40/1 | Betfred |
These 9 contenders are all being (golden)eyed for the role thanks to their previous roles and acting quality. If we're being completely honest here, the niceness of their faces is also a big factor. Looking at you, Regé-Jean, why else would you be here, Mr Bridgerton? Why are any of them here? Well, the section below can help you with that.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson + William Hill
Coming from…checks notes, High Wycombe with love, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the top pick for the new Bond. If Amazon announced Aaron as the next Bond tomorrow, we wouldn't be surprised. He has been speculated to be the next bearer of the Bond title for a few years now, reportedly being offered the role in 2024. This is represented in his odds by William Hill, which is a very low 11/8. These were the best odds we could find, and they get much shorter on other sites, with Betfair offering as low as 20/21.
What About Theo James?
At number two is Four, or Theo James, to people who don't regularly hate-watch Divergent. If you didn't catch him in that series, you may have spotted him in The White Lotus or voicing Hector in the Castlevania series. He's been rumoured to don the tuxedo due to his grittier roles, such as Eddie Halstead in Netflix's The Gentlemen. His odds sit at 7/2 from William Hill, putting him as the bookies' second favourite pick.
Is Henry Cavill Your Pick? William Hill Has the Odds
Having starred in plenty of spy thrillers recently, the former Man of Steel finds himself at our number three. If Cavill wasn't seen as too young at the time, he may have gotten the role before, as he auditioned alongside Daniel Craig originally for 2005’s Casino Royale. He has also talked at length about how he would love to play the role. Big Henry recently played Gus March-Phillips, one of the characters that inspired Bond, in Guy Ritchie's The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. This all presents a good claim for the previous Geralt of Rivia actor, one which puts him at strong 8/1 odds at William Hill.
More From William Hill: Aaron Pierre
The voice of Mufasa has recently been mentioned in the Bond debate and is now one of the favourites for the role. Before his transformation into an animated lion, Pierre played an ex-marine in Rebel Ridge. This showcased his serious action hero chops, which would be necessary for a possible candidate for Mr Bond. William Hill puts its odds at 8/1, the same as Henry Cavill. As a recent addition to the rumours, this is huge for Pierre, as Cavill has auditioned previously for the role and has spoken about his interest in being Bond at length. Pierre being seen as on par with Cavill’s likelihood so quickly establishes him as a firm competitor.
Thinking Cillian Murphy? See What William Hill's Odds Say
Ever since the huge success of Peaky Blinders, fans have been wanting Cillian to step into another iconic role. If he does land the role of James Bond, there would be plenty of happy Irishmen out there in the world. Cillian once led the pack of potential candidates, but his odds now sit at 40/1 due to his increasing age. Cillian definitely still has it and, despite him being almost 50, could play a Bond with an edge.
James Norton + Ladbrokes
Happy Valley star James Norton is a little further down our list of potential men on Her Majesty's Secret Service. If he hadn't commented on his Bond rumours with complete surprise and disbelief, I think he'd be further up the list. Having played plenty of roles in modern crime dramas, Norton would make a good fit for Bond, and his name is already James. Currently, his odds stand at 10/1, a fair chance but one that has a larger payout if it turns out to be true.
Regé-Jean Page Odds at Ladbrokes
Having recently portrayed an SIS member in Black Bag, Regé-Jean Page has also been rumoured as a contender for the iconic role. If his recent film is any sign of which projects he'd like to pursue after Bridgerton, he could be interested in taking on the role of Bond. His odds, however, suggest it's quite unlikely as they sit at 25/1.
Ladbrokes Has the Odds on Mescal
The Normal People actor has shown to be very capable of taking on a variety of roles since the release of the lockdown hit show. If you told me a few years ago that Connell Waldron could be the next Bond, I would've thought that he'd make for an awkward fit. However, having worn a tux recently at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Mescal proved us all wrong. His characters usually have more of a vulnerability to them compared to the wisecracking Bond, but this could bring an interesting take on the character. His best odds sit at 33/1, but he'd make for an Irish version of 007 that I wouldn't run away from.
Charlize Theron + Betfred
It has long been theorised that the name James Bond is just as much a title as 007. If that were the case, then this would be a canonical explanation of why there have been so many different faces tied to the same name. Doing this would open the role up for the possibility of a female James Bond, and the bookies think the most likely candidate would be Charlize Theron. Having starred in many spy flicks, including 2017's Atomic Blonde, she has the resume to fit seamlessly into the role. She has previously stated that she is now too old to play the first female James Bond, and Amazon probably wants an actor that they can have for multiple films.
How The James Bond Betting Market Works
Although it might seem strange, the James Bond betting market works exactly the same as any other type of bet. If a new rumour comes out, the odds will increase in that actor's favour. Betting on an actor can also affect the odds of the bet. If lots of people start betting on one person, the bookies will recognise this and increase the odds. Whilst this is a novelty type of bet, this will function the same as any other possible bet, with the odds being lower if the outcome seems more likely, and higher the less likely it seems to happen.

Who Is Most Likely To Be the Next James Bond?
In my opinion, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the most likely to be the next James Bond. If this does happen, this will match what the bookies say currently. Daniel Craig stepped down, in part, because of the toll it was taking on him as he grew older. This idea of being too old to play Bond is very common among some of the possible candidates. Idris Elba used to be a huge contender for the next Bond, but as time has gone on, he has been ruled out due to now being in his 50s. Daniel Craig was Bond for 15 years, which, if Amazon wants to replicate that length of time, would warrant a younger actor. With the recent acquisition from Amazon, it would also make sense for them to opt for an A-list celeb who has the potential to do plenty of films in the future. Aaron fits this bill perfectly, as he has starred in multiple major roles recently, including Nosferatu, Bullet Train and 28 Years Later, and still has a huge amount of years left on his career, being only 35.
FAQs
Here are some frequently asked questions regarding the upcoming Bond 26 and the betting odds on its lead actor. If you haven't found all the answers you were looking for in this article, take a look at this helpful section.
When is the next James Bond film going to be released?
Whilst no one knows for certain, it has recently been suggested that Bond 26 could be released at the end of 2027.
Who is most likely to direct the film?
Currently, there isn't a director confirmed to be working on Bond 26. But, there are five rumoured to be in the running to take the helm. These include Dune's Denis Villeneuve, All Quiet on the Western Front's Edward Berger, Paddington's Paul King, Shaun of the Dead's Edgar Wright and the Westworld co-creator, Jonathan Nolan.
What happens if I bet on Bond and they delay the announcement?
The exact specifics depend on the terms and conditions of the bookie that you choose to bet with, but some bets are eligible for ten years or more. If you make a bet on the next Bond actor and there is a delay, you will most likely still be viable for a payout when the announcement does happen.
Has anyone ever leaked the Bond actor early?
Whilst no one has leaked the identity of a new Bond before the official announcement, there have been many instances of leaked auditions. Henry Cavill, Anthony Starr and Rupert Friend have all had their previous auditions leaked online. This makes the chance of a possible leak much more likely than previously believed.
