Things are heating up between the McLaren boys after they made contact in Canada, resulting in an unfortunate early exit from the race for Lando Norris. This incident sealed Oscar Piastri’s fate, as he narrowly missed out on a podium finish. The cool, calm, collected Aussie stays firmly at the top of the Championship, but one good race from Norris could turn this competition on its head.

It seems that the Mercedes drivers found their speed around the Canadian track, as George Russell finally secured the top podium spot. Rookie driver Kimi Antonelli also joined the exclusive club of the top three youngest formula 1 drivers to receive a podium finish, picking up a hugely impressive third place.

The unforgiving corners and full-throttle speed traps around the Spielberg track will be sure to put the pressure on this weekend. Can Verstappen make himself a five-time winner at the Red Bull circuit? Or will Russell repeat history and be the one to lift the 1st place trophy for the second year running?

Oscar Piastri For Race Winner (7/4 on Betfred)

In his third year as a Formula 1 driver, Piastri is currently dominating the Championship title with consistent points finishes, finding himself on that top step five times so far this season. His teammate was the favourite to win before the lights went out in the first race this year, but Norris has had an inconsistent start to what should have been a victorious year.

Piastri, renowned for keeping his cool, was the only McLaren driver to cross the finish line after a collision that saw Norris’ car end up in the wall at the previous Grand Prix. After a disappointing weekend for McLaren fans, the focus for Piastri will be to get as many points on the board as possible.

Piastri has become the new favourite to win the World Championship, trading at 4/7 at the time of writing, as he makes driving at 200mph look effortless. Betfred have him priced up at 7/4 to achieve his first win at the Austrian Grand Prix, which looks a nice bet.

Max Verstappen With a Podium Finish (8/15 on William Hill)

Verstappen fans have flooded the grandstands for 10 seasons now to support the hot-headed Dutchman and it won’t be any different as he enters his 11th year on his team’s home circuit. While Verstappen has had his highs and lows to start the 2025 season, he is always like a duck to water around the Austrian track. He has secured eight podium finishes here, with four of those being in that top spot.

The Red Bull Ring is his strongest track on the calendar and while his car may not have the speed that will easily find his way to the top spot, Verstappen always finds a way to pull it out of the bag at the last second.

William Hill is confident that the Dutchman will be spraying the champagne over his devoted fans this week as he strives for that second place spot in the Championship standings. His odds are 8/15 to get on the podium, but there’s a feeling he might have to settle for minor honours this time around.

Alex Albon For a Points Finish (8/15 on bet365)

Alex Albon is finally getting the appreciation he deserves after a turbulent start to his Formula 1 career. Albon scored more points in the first two races of the 2025 season than he received in total for the whole of last season, talk about an impressive start!

This season, Albon has finished in the points in seven out of ten races, and it is clear that each time he gets stronger behind the wheel of the Williams. The addition of his new teammate, Carlos Sainz, has created some healthy rivalry that is clearly motivating them both to push their cars to the limits. Albon is truly a dark horse in the 2025 season, and it looks worth taking the 8/15 with Bet365 to secure a points finish this weekend.

Conclusion

With incredibly high temperatures expected in Austria over the weekend, this race could prove to be a tricky puzzle to solve. However, it’s difficult to ignore the form of Oscar Piastri, who will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing performance by his standards last time out. A five-time winner already this season, it looks worth taking the 7/4 on him to strike once again, with Max Verstappen and Alex Albon also fancied to perform well.
