Malta-based online gaming operator, Unibet, has signed on as the new sponsor of the World Grand Prix Darts Tournament which will be held in Dublin in October this year.

The World Grand Prix Darts Tournament has been held at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin for the past fifteen years and this year will be held from October 2 – 8. This is a unique darts tournament with the game played in a format of sets with all legs beginning and ending with a double.

Unibet is also the title sponsors of Professional Darts Corporation events with them sponsoring the PDC’s European Championship, Masters and World Series of Darts Finals, all of which are televised.

“The Unibet World Grand Prix is a fantastic tournament and it’s great that Unibet have moved to extend their backing of the PDC by supporting this event,” said Barry Hearn, chairman of the PDC. “The Unibet World Grand Prix is a great favourite for fans, especially those in Ireland who flock to the Citywest Hotel and is both enjoyed and dreaded by our players for the double-start format.”

The 32-player field includes two guaranteed home favourites with players from Ireland and Northern Ireland qualifying for the tournament. They will qualify alongside the top 16 players in the world and another 14 qualifiers from the PDC ProTour Order of Merit.
