Swedish Poker Federation Signs Deal with 888

The Svenska Pokerförbundet, the Swedish Poker Federation, has signed a two-year deal for new hosts for their online events and satellite tournaments for the live events of the Swedish Poker Championships, known as the Poker-SM. 888Poker will take over as hosts from Amaya-owned PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker who hosted the events for the previous few years.

The poker event was launched in 2004 and is a non-profit organisation so that all revenue, including membership fees and corporate sponsorships, are used to promote poker play in Sweden. Today, the event features a range of live and online events and 888Poker will now host both the satellite tournaments for the live events and the twelve online events.

“I’m very excited that 888Poker is becoming our partner for the coming two years,” announced Mauritz Altikardes, chief executive at Poker Events, coordinator of Poker-SM. “I believe that is exactly what the Swedish Poker Federation needs, a committed partner that wants to support the online community and grow with it.”

The online event will run from May 24 to 30 with the highlight being the $160 PSMO Main Event which will run for two days from May 29-30. The winner of the main event will take home the bulk of the prize pool, as well as ticket to the PSMO Live Event which will be held in Malta later in the year.

Other events to be held during the online segment of the championship will include a freeroll event (which will kick off the schedule) and award the winner a ticket to the live event in Malta and two satellite tournaments to be held on May 24 and May 27 which will award a minimum of two guaranteed seats for the PSMO Main Event.
