Scientific Games Launches First Skill-Based Slot Machine

American supplier of gambling products and lottery services, Scientific Games Corporation, has released their first slot game with a skill-based feature. The 6 reel, 60 line game is based on the classic popular arcade game, Space Invaders, which was first released in 1978.

The graphics and sounds of the Space Invaders slot game will be familiar to anyone who played the arcade game with its pixelated symbols and alien shooting bonus round. This bonus round is skill-based, allowing players to control a laser cannon and move it across the base of the screen shooting aliens that are dropping down. Players collect credits and advance along the bonus levels while aiming for one of the multi-level jackpots.

Players are given the option to buy directly into the Space Invaders Bonus round, bypassing the base game altogether. This also offers higher credit win levels than those that are available in the base game.

“Space Invaders is one of the true classic video arcade games and a childhood favourite for many who grew up in the era of video games,” stated Derik Mooberry, group chief executive of gaming for the New York-listed Scientific Games. “We are thrilled to bring this iconic game to casino slot game play.”

“Our development team worked diligently to ensure that our first skill-based game featured authentic Space Invaders game play, complete with its familiar alien symbols and correlative music, and we are certain that players are going to be captivated with this compelling new game.”

Casino players in New Jersey are already able to enjoy Space Invaders, which is featured on the innovative Blade(™)s32 cabinet machine. The game is expected to become available in other jurisdictions across North America in the future.
