Ireland’s largest independent bookmaker, Boylesports, has signed a deal with the Irish Greyhound Board (IGB) and renewed its title sponsorship of Ireland’s biggest greyhound racing event, the Irish Greyhound Derby.

The three-year deal is worth €1 million in prize money and will cover the event up to 2019. Running annually during August and September at Shelbourne Park in Dublin, the event attracts an International audience.

In addition, Boylesports will be the title sponsor of the Champion Stakes, a greyhound event that takes place in July and August in Dublin. The events finish just in time for the Derby and run over the 550yd distance. Their sponsorship of the Champion Stakes has been agreed for a one year term with an additional two year option.

“We are thrilled to announce Boylesports will be committed to Irish Greyhound Racing for the next three years in a sponsorship deal worth over one million,” announced John Boyle, founder and chief executive of Boylesports. “We are very committed to Irish sport and this partnership with the IGB cements Boylesports’ position as the biggest supporter of Irish greyhound racing, sponsoring two of the most prestigious events on the calendar, the Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby and the Boylesports Champion Stakes.”

Boylesports will also be sponsoring 12 sweepstake events, as well as 40 Getting Out Races. These will be held no more than once a month and will cover a range of grades and distances, allowing maximum participation for Greyhound Owners and Trainers.

Describing this deal as Boylesports’ “biggest Greyhound sponsorship to date,” and John Boyle as “a long-time supporter of the Irish Greyhound industry,” chairman of the Irish Greyhound Board, Phil Meaney said: “he has not only lent financial support to major events, but also helps us to increase our reach through the strength of their brand.”
